US, Japan women’s soccer teams battle for Olympic gold
The highly anticipated gold medal women’s soccer game between the U.S. and Japan has just concluded. The game is a rematch of last year’s World Cup final, which Japan won in a penalty shootout.Japan is trying to become the 1st team to win the World Cup and Olympic titles in back-to-back years. The U.S. is vying for their 4th Olympic gold medal and 3rd straight. The final drew a crowd of 80,203 to Wembley Stadium, the largest ever to see a women’s soccer game at the Olympics. Japan played really well tonight. They stayed calm, and played technical game. It’s just a lot of bad luck that they didn’t get the 2 penalty kicks they deserved for that handball and then Buehler bearhugging players from the back in the box.
And I really appreciate the spectators at Wembley Stadium booing Sepp Blatter. That really made this tournament that much better. Congratulations to Canada, Japan, and USA!
